The Continental GT Superspoert Convertible
In addition to the 209-mph coupe, the Supersports also will be offered as a convertible rated for a top speed of 205 mph. Customer demand will determine the body-style mix of the 710-car production run, 250 of which will be allocated to America. The first coupes will be 2017 models, and the convertible will be added for 2018. The name Supersports also appeared on a 20092012 Continental, of which 1900 were built. The first use was in 1925 when the name was Super Sport, two words and singular. Founder W.O. Bentley guaranteed the original could top 100 mph, powered by a 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This new one employs twice that displacement and three times the cylinders, with its 6.0-liter W-12. From the 552 horsepower this engine offered in the 2004 Continental GT, output has increased to 582 in todays equivalent model and 633 ponies in the GT Speed.
THE PINNACLE OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
fter a barely noticeable delay from idle, certainly too brief to call lag, the big 12-cylinder is eager to rev to its 6250-rpm redline, just 300 rpm beyond the power peak. But what really dominates the engines character is the massive 750 lb-ft of torque (100 more than you get in a Hellcat and fully present at 2050 rpm versus the Chryslers 4800-rpm peak). That and the smoothness of a 12, which has half again as many power strokes per revolution as a V-8. For all its upgrades, the W-12 still employs port fuel injection, so theres none of that gritty undertone that often accompanies direct-injection technology.
As the pinnacle of the Continental Range, the Supersports more than lives up to its name. Built on motorsport technology used in the GT3-R, it is the most dynamic Bentley ever to take to the road. As you would expect, it features thrilling levels of acceleration and speed, taking you from 0 to 60 mph in a breathtaking 3.4 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and on to a top speed of 209 mph (336 km/h). At speed, it is a blur. At rest, you can appreciate its striking appearance, with carbon fibre accents, unique front and rear bumper, bonnet vents and optional fixed rear spoiler, as well as full exterior Blackware. The Continental Supersports is instantly recognisable from its brooding, striking looks, with unique design features that make it stand out from its siblings. With a choice of over 100 exterior colours and unique interior colour splits, you can also personalise the Supersports to reflect your own unique style.
SUPERSPORTS AT FIRST SIGHT
Body styling features a bold new front and rear bumper design with carbon-fibre accents, while distinctive carbon-fibre bonnet vents, side skirts and a rear spoiler enhance the supercar style even further, as well as adding to the cars aerodynamic capabilities. Full exterior Blackware on the radiator surround, light units, window surrounds, rear bumper and door handle inserts give the car a strikingly assertive look, as do the gloss black exhaust tailpipe finishes and wing vents. The brooding image is completed by dark tint front and rear lights, 21 Black and Bright Machined Lightweight Forged Sports wheels and gloss black front radiator matrix grille the first available on this generation of W12-powered Continentals.
You can also choose to add exterior options that enhance the look of the Supersports and further underscore its sporting credentials. These include Supersports side decals, along with chequered carbon-fibre side panels. Subtle additions including gloss black Lightweight Forged Sports wheels and carbon fibre gloss door mirrors add to the effect. The theme can be continued even beneath the bonnet, with a Supersports branded carbon fibre engine cover. Almost every element of the Supersports offers the opportunity to add your personal touch. As a result, no two cars are the same. Starting with the steering wheel, you can specify unique contrast stitching, which is continued throughout the interior, as standard. There are 11 choices of hide colours as standard along with 10 additional veneers, including Bright Tint Aluminium and satin finish carbon fibre. Other options include a massage function and ventilated seats.
